Oil of eucalyptus is a colourless or pale yellow liquid. It has an aromatic and camphoraceous odour; a pungent, camphoraceous taste, which is followed by a sensation of cold. It is required to contain not less than 70.0% of cineole.

The davana plant is a small and aromatic herbaceous plant which is native to the Southern part of India, especially to the states of Karnataka,Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Its leaves and flowers are highly valued in the making of floral decorations and oils. Major constituents of the oil are esters, followed by hydrocarbons, alcohols and several sesquiterpenes. Minor constituents of the oil are cymene, sabinene, cineol, linalool, eugenol, borneol, earnestly and traces of other aroma chemicals. The principle constituent of the essential oil which gives it exquisite and delicate aroma is due to the presence of davanone, nor-davanone and linalool.
